ROMA

Two year long photo project conducted in the largest Roma camp in Italy where over 1000 Roma refugees from former Yugoslavia lived at the time, facing repeated racial prejudice and violence at the hands of the local community. After a while the camp was dismantled by the local authorities and the Roma refugees dispersed around the outskirts of Rome. The project captures the everyday life of the once travelling community, the complexity of their inner world, a record of their vividly poetic, dignified world surviving at the intersection of magical realism and stark reality.
